Absinthe

I didnt even hallucinate
I didn't go straight to being a manically bored world explorer.
I tried different things, I tried busing tables in England, I worked concierge at a hotel in India, I even bar tended  in Spain.  I would always try and make a new image of myself wherever in went.  Trying to change the parts of me I did not like.  I had a particularly interesting time at a bar  in Madrid.  I would just pretend to be the most mysterious and interesting person I could imagine.

I would just travel around, changing myself, trying to find the right combination.  I still haven't.  Which I think is why I'm still traveling.  Is there a perfect combination out there?  I am ask that a lot.

When you pretend to be something you are not, you can learn a lot about yourself.  When you put fake thoughts or words into your own mind, you begin to see where the real comes from subconsciously.  You begin to recognize your actual motives and eventually, you make peace with that.
I do not pretend anymore.  I did not find the perfect combination and I do not think I will.  Honestly, humans are not perfect, I doubt we are supposed to know the perfect way to be.

  1. I rarely share creative work that I do for class with friends or family. However, this blog project has been the exception to that rule. The outcome of these blogs was actually pretty amazing. I honestly had low hopes for my creative ability connecting with other peoples.
When this project was described to us I had no idea of the true total scope of the web we would be creating. It is a shame that we only got to go through a few blogs. I can only imagine the creativity that would spawn from thirty something blogs all connected though a web of posts.
The setup of this project is a pretty good example of a new spin on an old medium. Since blogging was introduced, english classes have required students to write about the minutia of life. But this interconnectivity, this new angle of approach provides as much room for innovation as the internet did when it was introduced to standalone computer terminals. Work plays off of other work. When I write about the blog that is one below mine, I borrow a little (or a lot) of technique or substance. Everything becomes remediation. For example, in their post, they talked about meeting a very interesting man and drinking absinthe with him. In my post, I was that man, with it i posted a picture of the real me drinking absinthe (intentionally cropped to remove faces.)
This platform gave me the opportunity to be the backstory for their post. Even though theirs came before mine.
The remediations or alterations always point back to the original post. The fun part would often be, reading their post and seeing how it points to YOUR storyline. The creativity is almost unconscious. It is not forced.
If you force it, you become like Mr BrainWash from Exit Through the Giftshop. People can tell when its forced. Which is where the beauty of this project came from. It seemed sincerely creative and I think that is something to share with people.
